If you think of your Insta as a shop window to you and your brand, every detail counts. And that includes a strong Instagram bio.
Let’s be real: your bio is often the first thing people read before deciding whether to follow. So it’s crucial to make a good impression. This is your chance to *sell yourself* and with a few lines. Some hashtags, contact info and a smattering of emojis, you can make an instant impact.
The thing is, a snappy, witty and informative bio can be tricky to conjure up. Looking for Instagram bio ideas, Instagram bio inspiration, Instagram bio tips or Instagram bio tricks? You’ve come to the right place! We turned to a few of our favourite Instagrammers for their advice…
Keep your Instagram bio short & sweet
Be short, sweet, truthful, unique. This is your space to self-promote! Consider your bio as the ‘best bits’ from your CV and highlight what you do. I know some people like to add a flourish of an inspiring quote or try different fonts. But I would advise to keep the creativity to the feed and imagery.
Make the most of line breaks
It’s so important that your bio is clear and structured rather than a messy chunk of text, so I divide mine into key bullet points. I mention my location so relevant brands can find me for potential partnerships, I highlight my background by stating that I’ve been blogging since 2008 and I include my email address so I’m easily contactable. If I’m working on an event or Insta challenge, I’ll include an active hashtag so my followers can easily get involved.
Liven up your Instagram Bio with Emojis
As an arty, farty nerd, I’m a big fan of using emojis on Instagram and the bio is no different. They’re handy for adding a little colour to your profile as well as individuality so try to find ones that are true to you. My favourite is ⚡️. Or you can copy and paste symbols like arrows and stars using a website like CoolSymbol. Either way, you can instantly make an impact without taking up a lot of characters. It’s a no brainer!
Add some sass to your Instagram bio
As well as stating what makes me unique and including my location and contact details, I also mention I’m a “Jason Momoa Enthusiast”. Haha, I really am! I find incorporating a joke, a pun or a touch of your personality works wonders at engaging a user who may be scrolling past your grid and can quickly draw them in.
Get linking
Think about when you see someone else’s bio — you want to know what they do and have the option to learn more or connect further in case you’re interested in their work. So make the most of the space to include a clickable website in your bio. This is one of the few places on Instagram where you can actually feature a live link so make the most of it.
